I found an online BSME program from the university of north dakota. It is Abet accredited. Has anyone completed or is anyone currently enrolled in this program? If so, what do you think of it.

RE: Online BSME/BSEE/BSCE (ABET accredited)

I don't know about that college, but normally online courses will take longer for your degree. They are also not 100% online. Although convenient from home, it's still a lot of work...more reading than usual.
I have taken online accredited courses from another university, it took most of my non-working hours to do.

Takes 6 years, and you still have to go to the campus for labs.  So you can't be Too far away.

RE: Online BSME/BSEE/BSCE (ABET accredited)

I looked into that very program several years ago.  It seems like a well thought out program to minimize lab attendance for persons who are already working.  However at the time I looked into it it was $550+ per credit hour, which is waaaaay more than I could afford to put into school, even if I liked the way they grouped the labs to minimize travel to the campus.

blah. FYI there is a bad rep around when anyone smells "online".

RE: Online BSME/BSEE/BSCE (ABET accredited)

I actually graduated from the University of North Dakota in May 2009 with a BSME. The DEDP (distance engineering degree program) is not an online degree.

The DEDP program allows older people/non traditional students who are in other fields to basically take the first 3 years of UND engineering classes online, typically in combination with some form of community college to get their generals/math out of the way, so that they only need to spend one year going to college to get their engineering degree.

Let me be very clear about this (and I am fairly confident about this but not 100%): you have to attend the University in Grand Forks, North Dakota for your senior year for your senior design project and seminar classes.

I never had a group project with people who are in the DEDP program for Machine Component Design labs etc... but they typically got stuck with doing power point presentations or excel spreadsheets while the students on campus did a lot of the analysis. Often times the DEDP students were judged very harshly by the students at UND and received inferior grades due to the difficulties of communicating over great distances like that.

However that is more anecdotal than statistical and I am sure that could be put in a positive light on a resume since a lot of companies require different groups in different areas to work together over the internet/phone nowadays.

FWIW I loved the DEDP program since every lecture was video taped then posted online with the power point presentation for basically every junior/senior level class.
