grab hook alternative

grab hook alternative

I'm looking for a small hook that will allow a chain (1/16 or 1/8) to be adjusted and secured on each link.  Grab hooks would be perfect if it was smaller, but most seem to be for heavy duty applications.  Is anyone familiar with what type of hook/fixture would work for this application? Thanks

RE: grab hook alternative

solobo, how about the beaded chain and fasteners used on fans and light fixtures?

Regards,

Mike

RE: grab hook alternative

Make a hook from the same size and material that the chain is made from, so that it slips inside the links?  Obviously, the hook would not support the same load as the chain.

RE: grab hook alternative

"Chain" is such a vague word.  Perhaps you'd get better help if you could clue us in a bit better on the type of chain.

RE: grab hook alternative

Have you tried a paperclip?  Seems like it would be about the right size and you can get them in a pretty wide variety of wire gauges and a few different shapes.

That's not even to mention the handsome bright chrome finish.

Engineering is not the science behind building.  It is the science behind not building.

RE: grab hook alternative

Use a ty-rap to pull it together

Thanks for the input, I would ideally like something that doesn't have to go through the chain link (like an s-hook) and I need something a little stronger than bead chain (about a 70lb load).  The way grab hooks allow chain to be secured by putting a link in sideways is what I was looking for.  The chain also needs to be adjustable back and forth (ie no ty-rap).  What I may do is bend an s-hook to have a straight narrow channel like a grab hook, I was just wondering if there is any similar hardware commercially available.
Thanks again!

RE: grab hook alternative

Just make a small rectangle as thick as the diameter of a chain link and drill a hole that your chain will go through about 3 chain diameters from one end and make a slot, chain size, on the centerline from the hole to the 1/2 diameter from the end of the rectangle.  On the other end drill a hole on the center line one drill diameter from the edge to accommodate what ever you are going to hang it on. You can trim this up quite a bit to lighten it.
