PVC selction for POWER CABLES

PVC selction for POWER CABLES

PVC selction for POWER CABLES

how we can select PVC material for PVC insulation and PVC sheath if we need properties a)all at a time or b)in combinations such as for particular cable,
fire retardant
fire resistant
oil resistant
anti termite
anti rodent
low smoke
low helogen

Is there any particular criteria for selection???

RE: PVC selction for POWER CABLES

quality2007,
You cannot have both zero halagon and FR with PVC oter sheath.Since there are lot of similar products in the market, best method is to get a set catalogues and find out the best product suits your application.

RE: PVC selction for POWER CABLES

First of all, as Kiribanda already said, it cannot be a single material.
PVC cannot be low smoke and halogen free as the resin it self contains chlorine. For insulation one could take XLPE or for low voltage even PUR [it is oil resistant too].
For jacket, ethylene/vinyl acetate (EVA) highly doped with aluminum oxide will be low smoke and fire retardant [but will be not indicated to pull it through conduits or duct].
Armored cable is good anti-rodent. Fire resistant could be mineral insulated or glass fiber insulated. Anti-termite are chemicals added in the jacket material.

RE: PVC selction for POWER CABLES

I seem to remember a metal conduit that had a PVC (maybe it was another material, I can't remember) jacket covering that we used in the chemical plant.  It was expensive as could be, but could withstand almost anything.

If it is broken, fix it.  If it isn't broken, I'll soon fix that.

Thanx for advices but I am more interesting in finding what happen to PVC orbital/Noman Clature/Bonding Structure when certain additives are added to creat such properties in PVC compound how???
