drag forces on stream hydro turbine

drag forces on stream hydro turbine

drag forces on stream hydro turbine

(OP)
The turbine dia. is 20m and the shroud dia. is 34m in a stream with a V of 3m/s. Using the shroud dia. the turbine at 40% hydraulic eff. produces 1,090,000 watts. P=FxV gives me 363,000 N of force or 40.5 ton of drag for the turbine and shroud. Add another 11 ton for the frictional forces (Ff)at the turbine for a total of 51 ton of drag caused by the turbine and shroud.
I didn't add any (Fd)for the shroud since it was used in calculating the additional wattage.
The 51 ton seems low to me.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Tom Rooney
