Total Strain Energy for Impact problem
Total Strain Energy for Impact problem
(OP)
Hello,
Is there a way to total the strain energy absorded in a part? I am trying to determine the total strain energy a structure can absorb. I don't think the graphic results of the strain energy are quite what I am looking for because I need the total strain energy for the part.
Here is a little background on the problem. We are looking an impact of a rigid object into a structure. One of we thought of simplifing ther problem was to look at it statically by applying a static load and comparing the strain energy to the kinteic energy of the object impacting the structure. It looks like thru mechanism I might be able to get force measure that can be brought into a dynamic analysis, but I haven't tried that yet. I am open to exploring any suggestions. Thanks.

RE: Total Strain Energy for Impact problem
The strain energy plots in the results viewer are on a per unit volume basis. See KB link:

Hope this helps,
