Vessel Lifting Lug Design

Vessel Lifting Lug Design

Vessel Lifting Lug Design

(OP)
Several references are made to use the Moss, PVDM 3rd Edition for lug design.  I am having trouble confiming/checking/calculating and coming up with the lug thicknesses listed in the Table 7-5 Page 399, based on the loads listed.  Has anyone checked this table? Please advise. Thanks

RE: Vessel Lifting Lug Design

I have not checked the table. However I have seen many company standards with similar dimensions. Note WL in the table is the vessel erection weight, not load on each lug. Those standard lug sizes, when used, are to be checked for each vessel lifting design. They are not supposed to be used without supporting calculations.

Thanks for the comment. For a simple cylinder lift < 20,000 LBS a standard lugs would be acceptable.  I was just checking to see if anyone had confirmed the standard lugs using the calculations and notes listed.  I have found many of the tables missing back-up information.  Everyone references the Moss book, but I have found few that have checked it.
Thanks again.
