can you extract U-V grid as curves?

can you extract U-V grid as curves?

I'm sorry if it's an easy question, but it would be helpful to have for an imported solid model I have.

Hello, it is NX5

RE: can you extract U-V grid as curves?

It's a bit tedious it you want actual 'curves'.

However, if you only want to see your solid 'displayed' as U/V curves you can do that by changing your display to 'Static Wireframe' and then using the Edit Object Display, set the number of U & V curve in 'Wireframe Display'.

Now if you want actual curves as separate objects, you will need to go to...

Insert -> Curves from Bodies -> Extract...

...and select the 'Isoparametric Curve' button and then, one face at a time, you can select the faces and create as many U or V curves as you wish (I said it was tedious).

I got it, and thank you very much

RE: can you extract U-V grid as curves?

Tedious but still a useful function...

I've used it many times when rebuilding tubes and wires from imported data.

Is there an easier way now?

RE: can you extract U-V grid as curves?

No, not really, and I don't don't expect any changes anytime soon since this is a bit of an antiquated routine, left over from the days of 3D wireframe modeling.  Now eventually, when we get to the point where we decide to either scrap or bring fully up-to-date the remainder of the dialogs, that it's possible that this function will get a facelift because, as has been mentioned, it's still useful despite its ancestry.
