Learning DWG Editor

Learning DWG Editor

(OP)
Howdy all,

So I'm tired of struggling with DWG Editor.  I know it's a mimic of AutoCAD, but I've never really learned how to use either program effectivly.  While I'm creating all new models in SolidWorks, I regularly need to interogate .DWG files for information and if possible import them into SolidWorks to create my drawings.  What I would like to know is what book should I use to learn DWGEditor?  Which AutoCAD version (and hence book for that version) is DWGEditor closest to?  I want to learn enough to get whatever information I need out of the files and then, hopefully, be able to ignore them forever.  I'm not a big AutoCAD fan as you can tell, but I think most of my displeasure with it are because I don't understand how to use it.

Thanks for your help.

RE: Learning DWG Editor

Don't bother learning ACAD/DWGEditor.  Instead, open a SWX part file and suck in the sketches from the .dwg file.  I find it much easier to interrogate the dwg info this way.

That was the right move.  Thanks Updraft.  I may still go back and learn ACAD/DWGE, but for now I think importing it will satisfy my needs.
