living hinge model
living hinge model
(OP)
Any body has tips on how to model a living hinge on a plastic part. I need to to be able to have a lid hinged to a housing. I should be able to have 2 cfgs lid closed & lid opened. I am referring to htt p://inject ionmolding .blog.quic kparts.com /2009/08/2 0/design-f or-a-livin g-hinge-fo r-injectio n-molding/ for the hinge dims. But unable to figure out on how go ahead creating the cfgs for open and close.
Any body has a model to share?

RE: living hinge model
Talking more about the hinge profile. In the molded condition it basically a flat plastic (lines in sketch). In folded condition, it is curved plastic (Arc in sketch)
Even if I would create 2 different configurations, I would need to consider 2 separate features (one for flat & another for curved). I would prefer if there was a way to handle it using same sketch geometry.
Secondly, there is this Flex feature, but its not a precise way of representing.
I wonder if there was a way to have a combination of sheet metal & non-sheet metal SW-part.

Or use a spline (instead of two lines and a curve) to create the hinge section. The spline can be forced to be 'straight'.

Thats a nice approach. I will give it a try for sure.
