Water in cable pit

Water in cable pit

Water in cable pit

(OP)
I'm having issues with ground water seeping into a couple of our cable pits under our MCCs.  The pits are concrete with drains built in.  However, the drains get clogged up and water begins to collect.  The floor grade is not quite perfect and has some low spots opposite the drain.  Also, the covers are made of 1/4" diamond plate and do not allow air circulation for evaporation.  I'm looking for recommendations on how to get the cables off the concrete and out of the water (egg crates or wine racks, perhaps?) and how can I modify the covers to allow better air circulation while minimizing dirt and trash.

RE: Water in cable pit

I would be more worried about high humidity and possible condensation inside the MCC. Get rid of the water rather than trying to live with it.

No argument there.  The structural folks are working on that part.  However, it is the small puddles of standing water that sump pumps and drainage don't get out that I want to minimize.

RE: Water in cable pit

Try pouring a little carefully landscaped concrete to direct the water to the sump. Add an inch or two of concrete profiled so that the only low spot is the sump, or drain.
