How to clean a pipeline after a shutdown of the kiln?

How to clean a pipeline after a shutdown of the kiln?

How to clean a pipeline after a shutdown of the kiln?

(OP)

We have some issues when the slurry pipes are left full of this material and these pipes are not in use, then the material starts to settle and gets hard which makes unavailable these slurry pipes for using them again.  We have had stops and delays in the kiln for this matter and these issues get worse when having low ambient temperatures and the slurry pipes freezes out.

The objective of the project is to come to a practical solution in order to ensure the reliability of these slurry systems, taking into account the maintenance, environmental and process impact for what ever the solution is going to  be.
Thank you for the help!!

Hugo,
You didn't say what size or length line you have.  This can have a significant impact on the economic viability of options.

Have you looked at running a batching pig behind the last batch of slurry and pushing it with clean water?  Then you only have to dump a pipe load of clean water (which is probably no longer clean after contacting the pipe walls).

In sizes smaller than 6-inch you can do the pigging/pig-removal with pigging valves that don't take much space at all.

I doubt you need to put a pig to do in there.  At the end of the slurry run, open a flush fast enough to keep the slurry moving and the mixing quantity low.  Any flow velocity in the turbulent range would normally do.

Agree with BigInch but of course you must have a kind of T-piece with shut-off valves in front of your kiln to avoid that you flush your kiln with water. You can use the existing pump for pipe flushing.

Thank you all, the size of the pipeline is 8 inch and the lenght is 800 meters. We are thinking in use a pig or flushing with water.

Thanks again!
