Sodium Sulfide Production
Sodium Sulfide Production
(OP)
Hi Everybody,
I heard one method for sodium sulfide production is bubble the hydrogen sulfide gas to a concentrated caustic soda solution.
Does anybody have information for this process?key points?
What are the other economic method(s)?
Thanks

RE: Sodium Sulfide Production
A concise answer from reading chemistry books would be:
-Reduction of sodium sulfate with powdered coal in a furnace at 900-1000 Celsius
-Reduction of barium sulfate in a rotary kiln at 800 Celsius, the leached barium sulfide is converted to sodium sulfide and barium carbonate by addition of sodium carbonate.
-BTW, the bubbling of H2S through caustic soda solutions can also produce sodium bisulfide (NaSH).
