Hello,
We're chomping at the bit here to get SW2010SP3.0 loaded on our workstations and was wondering if we can run it without updating our server, leaving it at 2009?

Thanks,

I'm not sure about that specific version, but I-personally-ran into PDM Vault/SolidWorks compatibility issues - I found a work-around, but only because I didn't know better.

RE: SW2010SP3.0 & WorkgroupPDM 2009

macduff,

I personally would avoid mixing versions.  I just upgraded to SW2010 from SW2007.  We tied the SW2010 upgrade to the Workgroup PDM upgrade and restarted the vault and network license on a new server.

Is it that easy Matt?

Heads up. You cannot update your clients to a new major release and not your vault.

Quote (SolidWorks Help):

When the vault is updated and you log in to a client (SolidWorks or SolidWorks Explorer), a message indicates the client is not compatible with the version in the vault if the client is not in the same major release of SolidWorks Workgroup PDM. (However, the service pack levels do not have to match. For example, you can run an SP3 version of the vault software with a client that has SP2 installed.) Follow the on-screen instructions to update the clients.

I can confirm two things. That this statement is true, the vault and client must be of the same major version. And that after three different major upgrades the worst headache you should have with the vault is needing a new viewer serial number if you use the PDM web viewer. In that case just write your VAR and request one for the upgraded server. They generally turn them around in a couple of hours.
