B31.3 LONGITUDINAL WELD EXAM REQUIREMENTS

B31.3 LONGITUDINAL WELD EXAM REQUIREMENTS

B31.3 LONGITUDINAL WELD EXAM REQUIREMENTS

(OP)
I am looking for the weld exam requirements in B31.3 Seems circ. groove welds require 5% min xray for normal service, however longitudinal groove welds only require xray when an increase in the joint quality factor is needed. Since i am welding my own longitudinal seam and my code of construction is B31.3 and 0.8E is suffucuent do i not have to xray the long seam? I feel like i am missing something..

RE: B31.3 LONGITUDINAL WELD EXAM REQUIREMENTS

As long as you perform the required visual inpections your interpretion is correct for normal and catagory M fluid service. That is the purpose of the Joint Quality Factor.

A question properly stated is a problem half solved.
