Flange Thickness Calculations

Flange Thickness Calculations

(OP)
A pressure vessel has a 16" Nom. Sch 80 pipe attached (welded) to it , the length of pipe is 2 feet. At the end of pipe a slip on flange is to be welded and to be covered by a blind flange.
From where shall i calculate the desired thickness of flange, bolt size & bolt pitch circle dia. The vessel is of ASME Section III Class NB.

RE: Flange Thickness Calculations

Use a standard ASME B16.5 flange at the appropriate temperature/pressure rating.  Don't bother re-inventing the wheel.

Thanks for the advice.

Kindly tell me if it is a non standard flange and my vessel is NB. What should i do, Should i follow Appendix XI-3000 ?

Just to make sure I understand the situation:

You are designing a vessel to the nuclear code, but you don't know how to design a flange?

RE: Flange Thickness Calculations

(OP)
Yes, and the flanges are non standard , with one slip on and one blind to cover it.

RE: Flange Thickness Calculations

safiamoiz,
I think "jte" means that if you do not know how to design a flanged joint (SORF to Blind flange) then how the hell are you capable of designing a complete vessel to a nuclear Code. It seems like a very valid question!!!

RE: Flange Thickness Calculations

It's the way of the world........

Can't really add much more can I

RE: Flange Thickness Calculations

Amen.... DSB...... !!!

Sometimes a rant IS the correct answer to the question

Looks like the beginning of the end to me....
