AISI 1018 vs. AISI 1022

AISI 1018 vs. AISI 1022

(OP)
Hi,

We have asked to have some pins fabricated using AISI 1018 steel.  The machine shop is asking us if they can use AISI 1022 instead.  I know the mechanical properties are actually better but more brittle due to slightly higher carbon content.  But is there a chance of galvanic corrosion if 1018 steel comes in contact with 1022 steel?

Thank you

No. Other than the slightly higher carbon content in 1022, from a practical standpoint they are very similar materials in terms of corrosion resistance.

Yes you can use the 1022 instead of 1018.  The 1022 will not be any more brittle than the 1018 under regular usage.
