Expert Opinion on Section Views Needed

(OP)
I apologize for cross-threading this post, but I am curious as to what the experts have to say about this subject.

RE: Expert Opinion on Section Views Needed

Sounds like a CAD user issue.

Yes and no... it can be done, but which accepted standard, if any, would it meet?

RE: Expert Opinion on Section Views Needed

I have always seen/read that the section view is perpendicular to the section cut.  No wonder everyone is thinking this was kludged together.  The sample PDF in the OP even shows a cross-hatched area that doesn't match the section line area.

RE: Expert Opinion on Section Views Needed

ewh, I think you answered your own question with reference to the relevant ASME std.

I take issue with what John Baker said about not adding functionality that isn't supported by drawings standards.

There is functionality, such as taking a section of a section, that Siemens other CAD package will do if memory serves, that the standard doesn't endorse.

The OP was so adament that it is correct because he saw a designer do it before, that I was hoping lift the veil and show that yes, designers, and sometimes engineers, do make drawing mistakes.

KENAT...I think what John meant, is that they (software companies) wouldn't support it without an established standard, or the request of a customer the size of GM, etc.

Everything should be designed as simple as possible, but not simpler.

RE: Expert Opinion on Section Views Needed

Siemens uses a voting process to determine ERs to be implemented. If an ER gets enough votes to be the top choice, no matter who submitted it, Siemens has committed to implement it and report back the following year on status.
However, not all ERs make it in to the CIP ballot.
