NX6-Extrude direction

NX6-Extrude direction

Moving from 2 to 6. Can't drop old habits quick enough. In NX2 when define extrude direction I can type in x: 1 y: 0 Z:-1 to define a direction that 45 degree to x/z. Is there a simular option in NX6?

Thanks. Figured this one out: pick "by coefficients"

RE: NX6-Extrude direction

And if you would like to be 100% parametric, rather than picking 'By Coefficients', try 'By Expression'.  Using the same values for the I,J,K 'Coefficients' except in a Vector Expression, you can now have complete 'parametric' control over the direction of your extrusion.

Note that starting with NX 6.0, wherever you are allowed to define a Vector direction in a feature operation you should see the option to define a vector 'By Expression'.  Also implemented at the same time was the option to define Points 'By Expression' as well.  Note that in both cases, this is using a new 'Type' of Expression which contains all three parameters in a single entry.

To an Engineer, the glass is twice as big as it needs to be.

John thanks for the tip. It works. Another question. Is there any way to group some of the option to a short cut menu at level one dialogue. Now it's like deeply buried at level 3 which means I had to click 3 times to get there. Unlike NX2 everything is at level 1. My design work is quite time sensitive. It'll help a lot if I can save just one click everytime.

RE: NX6-Extrude direction

Well, you can pre-define Point and Vector Expressions and then just select them from the 'By Expression' option dialog and edit them afterwards.

yeah. I know it's quite handy. The only shortcome of NX6 is because there are so many options (lot more than NX2) that it takes me 3 clicks plus the time to aim the options. I have to hold the mouse steady. But after few hours intense work my hnad (right hand only, left hand is on the space ball) is getting weaker. The chance of start over (because my poor finger couldn't hit the right spot) is getting significantly higher. I miss the old NX2 simplicity...
