Replacment for a IFV51 relay

Replacment for a IFV51 relay

Replacment for a IFV51 relay

(OP)
Does anyone know of a good replacment for a IFV51 relay.

We would like to use a self-testing relay in place of a IFV51 relay to reduce the need to test a single relay inbetween testing of the remainder of the relays in the panel.

IFCV51?

The IFCV51 appears to be no better than what I have.

Sorry, I was questioning if the model number you originally provided was correct.

It might help if you gave the manufacturer and relay type.  I'm not sure I know what an IFV51 is.

If I'm not mistaken, this is a voltage restrained overcurrent relay sometimes used in generator protection.  Microprocessor generator protection relays such as the Beckwith M-3420 have a 51V element that performs a similar function.

The IFV51 is a time over voltage relay made by GE.

This is the only electromechinical relay used in the generator protection. Why they used a pair of DGP's, and an electromechinical voltage relay, I'll never know.

I'd forgotten all about the IFV.  I'd have a look at the Beckwith M3410A.  It's a relatively inexpensive intertie relay that has over/undervoltage and several other protective functions.

But most feeder protection relays can do over/under voltage tripping now as well - at least as an option.

I've seen this GE Relay package before.  I believe it is an attempt at good old fashioned redundancy.

GE makes M Series relays which are discrete / u processor.

Basler also makes a nice line of single function relays that may also plug and play for your application.
