Pipe Column Classification

Pipe Column Classification

(OP)
Have a project where the owner, a contractor is using salvaged 8" sprinkler pipe from a demolished warehouse as a pipe column for the pool roon of a new residence.

The specifics are:

Astm A53/106
Asme SA53/106

Overall the pipe is about 8-11/16" and the inside is 8" which would make the wall size 11/32".  Apparently it is classed as schedule 40.

My questions are three fold:

1.  Is this the same as ASTM A53 Grade B?
2.  Has anyone used this type of material for structural columns?
3.  If it is not A53 Grade B, are there weldability issues?

FYI, this is the same column section I am using in the moment connection I posted on last week integrating a tube section with a round one.
