can the vertical (or horizontal) break width be varied so as to include the resultant view within it, as per example?

I know it wasn't possible, but now is.  I think the capability came in in SW08 or SW09.

Sorry my reply was a bit cryptic, hit Enter too soon.  You can add multiple Breaks in a single drawing view.

I read your post too quickly, I don't think changing the size of the Break will give you the cross-section as in your example.  You'll probably have to do as BluTurtle suggested.
