Context?

RE: NS4FS abbreviation

While on the subject of acronyms, what does "D.O." or "d.o." stand for?  The context is usually on a drawing where one member is specified and then "D.O." in the rest where you would expect them to be the same size.  I've seen 'ditto' as an answer, but that seems rather unprofessional.

RE: NS4FS abbreviation

Do you mean "NS&FS". If that is the case...it can be "Near side and far side" as you mentioned. But, as paddingtongreen already mentioned...it all depends on the context. Hope this is helpful.

I did not think to look at keypad - clearly they did not hit shift or hit it too fast -

thanks for this lesson to think and consider

RE: NS4FS abbreviation

"do" for ditto is hardly unprofessional, It is an abbreviation with a long history and is generally well understood, I've seen it on drawings that were old when I stated work. It may have disappeared from new drawings where a member size is in memory and can be placed with a touch of a button, but back when we did our drawings by hand it was a useful time saver.

RE: NS4FS abbreviation

Some guys here still go for the "do" ...especially useful where there are any beams repeated in floor or roof framing.
I go with a general note of "U.N.O." and whatever that doesnt take care I go with the good ole' "do"

RE: NS4FS abbreviation

does anybody remember that game show where you had to decipher the license plates?
