What are power users?

There is the MS power user group - that I understand; but there are also people who describe themselves as power users.

I met one of these the other day: had multiple explorer, word, excel and IE sessions and only 1 visual studio session.  He described himself as a power user because the computer was struggling to keep up with the number of sessions he had.  Most of them didn't need to be open: they were just left open because he couldn't be bothered to close them.  He wasn't really a power user: just an untidy worker.

Other than someone who has a very untidy task bar, what is a power user?

RE: Power Users

Most user of M$ products use a tiny proportion of the capability.  They find 15 things that work for them in Word, 20 in Excel, and 6 in PowerPoint.  If you tell them that there is a better way to do any of the things they "know" how to do, they get irate.

Most "power users" know about the same number of commands, but they are a different subset.  My experience is that if someone is comfortable in RegEdit in Windows then they are probably pretty close.  If they can write a C++ program to modify a built-in function then they are probably there.  Less than than is just a "user" with delusions.

RE: Power Users

When used correctly, power users are those users, who because of permissions and account settings, have access to features and functions that are not available to normal users, such as administrator functions or root commands.
