Career Tips

(OP)
I am a recent graduate of a mechnical engineering degree and I am interested in a career in Corrosion Engineering.  Can anyone suggests ways that I can get my way into the industry?  Open to any suggestions.

Thanks for the reply. I currently am working for an engineering firm in the oil and gas industry in Houston.

RE: Career Tips

I'd suggest becoming a member of NACE and actually becoming involved.

I was recently laid off and have finally found a job.  And the only reason I got that job was networking.  I would expect organizations would give you a great change to network and advance professionally.

RE: Career Tips

macmet,
Are you a member of the lodge also? Or is it just the old saying "it's not what you know just who you know"

RE: Career Tips

No, I'm not a member.

When I first got out of school corrosion was one of the things I was focusing on and I was looking to become a member.  My job evolved though and corrosion became less of a factor and I lost touch with it all together. If I was still working in this field I would become a member.

I just got back into the work force after discovering how important it is to have contacts.
