Using 3DCONNEXION device with ACAD-2011

Using 3DCONNEXION device with ACAD-2011

Using 3DCONNEXION device with ACAD-2011

(OP)
I'm using a 3DCONNEXION pointing device, with my ACAD-2011.

2 problems-

1. How do you set the center of rotation in AutoCAD ? I imagine its the same function as if you're using the 3DORBIT tool, but I've never had a problem with centering the 3DORBIT tool on the model. Now that I'm using the 3DCONNEXION device, its an issue. The center of rotation is often far off the part, and so it swings well off the screen for a simple rotation.

I've checked thru-out the ACAD help system with NO success.

I use ACAD 2D/3D alongside RHINO-3D and Inventor, and it works FLAWLESSLY in those 2.

2. AutoCAD has traditionally reversed the manipulation direction such that moving "up" moved the view "up", and thus the model "down" on the screen, and all other moves typical with this. RHINO and all others, INCLUDING Inventor, move left-to go left, righ-right, up-up, & down-down, and rotate the way you spin the controller. This results in DIRECT manipultation of the part. I could reverse the controlls on the controller software, but would have to change back every time I switched back to Inventor or RHINO.

Suggestions ?

Thanks-

C. Fee

RE: Using 3DCONNEXION device with ACAD-2011

Try AutoCAD 3dorbitctr command.

You can change the wheel zoom in AutoCAD Options.

I set my 3dconnexion device for pan left/right up/down and zoom push/pull on the puck.  (I tried the default settings for about 2 weeks, but never felt comfortable.  I was about to give up and put it in the box when I decided to give it one last chance by editing the default settings.  After setting as above I was flying like a pro within 5 minutes.)

Each program settings are remembered by the 3DConnexion software and changes automatically when changing from one program to another.

rollupswx-
"set my 3dconnexion device for pan left/right up/down and zoom push/pull on the puck" Interesting idea. Before changing anything, I wanted to try your "Try AutoCAD 3dorbitctr command" suggestion. Openned AutoCAD. played with the puck a moment before deciding to launching into configuration changes. SURPRISE- it rotated directly, and moved the way I would expect it to without any modifications, as if it had been re-reversed, and was now moving DIRECTLY with the input. Hmmm... so I'm thinking well, maybe I don't have to do anything after all. Drew a couple of test objects, all worked well, for about 5 minutes or so. then without warning lost ability to rotate, and only had push-pull zoom, left-right-pan., just as you described you manually reconfigured your device to do. Lost ability to rotate around Z. I'll try shutting down the ACAD and restarting, but very curious. Thoughts?
