Electrical silicon steel

Electrical silicon steel

(OP)
Hi,

I don't find a standard which defines the chemical analysis for the steel M400-50A according to EN10106
(equivalent to ref ASTM A 677 Grade 47F240).
I would like to know the content of carbon , silicon and other elements.
Thank you for your help.

Yes, that is correct. I have ASTM A 677 and after reviewing it there is no specific requirement for chemical analysis to be reported UNLESS the producer is required to provide it based on the Purchaser's requirement (negotiated).

There is this basic information in ASTM A 677

Description under Manufacture....
C</= 0.20 percent by mass
Si - added by Producer to achieve maximum core loss properties

S </= 0.015 percent by mass
Mn - range fo 0.10 to 0.40 percent by mass

Should be 0.025 not 0.015

RE: Electrical silicon steel

It is normal to find Silicon content ranging from 3% to 6.5% in transformer steels.

RE: Electrical silicon steel

Look in the info from MMPA (magnetic materials producer association).  They used to have a set of good standards.
