contaminant analyzers for natural gas (CNG)

I'm not from the natural gas industry, hence my simple question: Is there currently a sensor/analyzer that will detect solid AND water contaminants in the natural gas/gas transport industry?

RE: contaminant analyzers for natural gas (CNG)

solids???  there are none. solids are not detectible, but filters are installed to assure removal.

there are many H2O analyzers, panametrice, ametek and others

Thanks for your response dcasto. following on...If there were a sensor/analyzer that was capable of sensing both water in ppmV and solids in mg/l, at what point in the gathering or transport phase (if any) would this device be beneficial to the gas industry?

RE: contaminant analyzers for natural gas (CNG)

Im not extremely familiar with the differeces between CNG and LNG, but with LNG, water is very damaging during phase changes, specifically from vapor to liquid. And also, before use/combustion, water must be removed(obviously).

the industry uses such meters normally at the point of delivery into the transmission system.  We also use them at the inlet of a cryogenic plant to assure that we do not freeze up.

Typically, GE Panametrics and SpectraSensor, Ametex are used,

Thank you again dcasto. It intrigues me that no one is able to detect solids. I've heard the term "black powder" before, and believe there are recent technological developments out there that will detect solid contaminants. I think my question is more on the lines of: Is there a benefit to detecting solid contamination? For instance, could a supplier be penalized for exessivly high solids contamination...could you make someone else pay for your filtration if they are adding to your pipelines overall contamination levels?

Perry Equipment (PECO) has the equipment and they will check it on site.  Once you know you have it and you put a system in place to stop it, there is no need to have a continous monitor.
