Add auto reference sets

Add auto reference sets

Add auto reference sets

(OP)
Hi all,
Is there any way to add auto reference sets other than those available in NX. On the basis of geometric filter or layers range (category) filtration.

I.e. Other than Empty, Entire Part, Model, Lightweight and Simplified Reference Sets

For example

Case 1: I want all geometry present in "layer 1" and "layer 18" to be included in reference set "Basic Model"

Case 2: I want all only solids to be included in reference set "Only solids"
Please don't tell me to use "Model" reference set for case2 because it adds surfaces too.

Which I don't want!

Any help will be appreciated, thanks in advance.

RE: Add auto reference sets

You may not be able to have everything that you want here, but like the Stones said you might just get what you need. Have a look into the customer defaults and there you should be able to change the contents of the Model reference set from "sheets and solids" to "solids priority"

Now for your other layer based site standards one option to change is when you add components to assemblies use original layers. That way when you want to view elements of your components that you have on separate layers then you can work within the entire part reference set and turn on and off the standardised layers for different kinds of geometry.

Beyond that and for fixing up existing components try creating a few simple macros that you can even put under toolbar icons if you so wish.

Thanks Hudson,

Only representation is not the requirement, I want to calculate weight of only specific solid in each file, few other solids were created in almost all child files of the nearly 1500 component assembly, Other solid have some other use I cant remove them.

Now "Advance Weight Management" gives you freedom to choose geometries base on reference set but unfortunately there in no option to add custom referees set list.

Hopping this will clear some picture, any clue on this difficulty is welcomed.

Hello John R. Baker,

May I get some comment or suggestions from your end, to have auto custom reference sets which can be add at later stage.

RE: Add auto reference sets

I'm not sure what our long term direction is since with NX 7.5 there has been some changes made which in some ways may make Reference Sets less of an issue.  The primary example being that there is no longer any need for a 'lightweight' Reference Set which carried the faceted representations of the models stored in the Model Reference Set.  Starting with NX 7.5, lightweight (faceted) representations are now part of the model itself and there is no need for Reference Sets to manage them.

Now this may lead to us taking a new look at Reference Sets since there is no more absolute requirement that they behave in a certain manner in order to support lightweight models so perhaps some opportunities might present themselves.  My advice is to contact GTAC and have them open an ER outlining what it is that you would like to see with respect to changes in Reference Sets and perhaps this will help give us some new direction in the area.

Thanks all, I will discuss with my NX support team.
