Intermixed TP and Profile Callout?

Intermixed TP and Profile Callout?

Intermixed TP and Profile Callout?

(OP)
I have a drawing (not mine) where the part intermixes TP and profile tolerance.  For simplicity imagine a part which looks like a V with two circles at the top.   A TP callout is used to locate the diameters, and the side of the V is defined as tangent to the diameters, and a basic angle callout.  A profile tolerance is applied to the angle portion of the V (with no datum reference).

My question is, what defines the basic profile from which the sides are to be checked against?  Do you find the actual diameters and position, then draw the V portion at the basic angle tangent to the actual diameter and use that as the line from which the profile is checked?  I don't think this is right unless the profile callout references the diameters as datums.

Alternatively, does the basic location of the diameters, and nominal diameter define the basic location of the V sides, and then the profile is checked against that regardless of the actual diameter and position?

I don't think the drawing is made correctly, but it's what I have to work with.

Thanks

RE: Intermixed TP and Profile Callout?

ozzkoz,

It looks strange since there is no datum reference for profile callout in this case. But maybe I am imaging something wrong. What is a datum reference for position tolerance of 2 holes? Any sketch would help a lot.

RE: Intermixed TP and Profile Callout?

Is this basically a heart shape, then?
