Revision clouds in CATIA Drawing

Revision clouds in CATIA Drawing

Can anyone tell me how to make a revison cloud on a drawing made in CATIA?

RE: Revision clouds in CATIA Drawing

That's a new term for me - could you attach a picture showing what a Revision Cloud looks like?

RE: Revision clouds in CATIA Drawing

Aaah I see, we use balloons with numbers to match the entries in the revision table.

For this I would recommend you to create a ditto or several depending if you want different shapes. If I'm not mistaken a ditto can be scaled when inserted so you can cover the area wanted.

RE: Revision clouds in CATIA Drawing

Been a toolmaker for 26 years and I can't say 'ive ever seen a "revision cloud" on a drawing before.

There is apparently a lot of ways to indicate alterations on drawings. Users of AutoCad must know the revision since it  has been a part of the drawing tools here for some years.

To Azrael:

Now, you must explain to me what 'a ditto' is.

I have considered to make a linetype made of semicircles, draw a spline and then assign the linetype to it hoping that it will look like a revision cloud.

RE: Revision clouds in CATIA Drawing

We use a Spline and make choose a thick linetype to help it stand out.

RE: Revision clouds in CATIA Drawing

For creating dittos mmm think it's called detailed views now.. used old naming from V4, it's like a autocad block. Haven't had a chance to check if the dittos are scalable, think they need to be that to suite your purpose, anyway maybe you can try and come back to us how it works? For dittos or detailed views.

1-Create new drawing
2-Add detail view (not standard view)
3-Create the shape you desire with wireframe tools, note that the axis will be used as placement reference later
4-Save as .catalog

If you need more shapes then repeat steps 2 through 4

To use it use the from catalog (think it's called like that) and choose your catalog and finally the ditto and place it on the drawing.

Thank you, Azrael, for your explanation. You are right about the need to be able to scale and stretch the ditto so even though your description sounds reasonable it does not quite fulfíll my needs.

To everybody:
We experimented with using a spline and a newly created linetype consisting of semicircles and actually succeeded quite well. It is not perfect, but for the time being it suits our needs.

Thanks to everybody for their answers!! clown

RE: Revision clouds in CATIA Drawing

Just FYI, the method Azrael proposes CAN be scaled.  We have arrows, specific shading, etc... and when you place the instance or detail view into your sheet, you can drag the corners to scale the object.
