Fan Motor Upgrade

Fan Motor Upgrade

Fan Motor Upgrade

(OP)
We are currently looking to change out the motor of an existing fan with a larger one (75hp to 125hp). The weight difference in motors is approximately 550lbs and the motor mount size has changed from a NEMA326T to a NEMA444T. Initially we were told by the base manufacturer that we could simply cut the existing motor mounting studs (which are connected to steel cross members embedded in the concrete) and remount our new motor mount in the concrete using chem bolts. There is plenty of real estate on the pad for the larger motor and we were thinking that some of the springs on the spring isolators would have to be changed out as well, but we can't get a confirmation from the original manufacturers that this will work. We also need to determine if the amount of concrete in the current inertia pad is enough to dampen the new RPM that we will be spinning at and the new weight on it.

Is there a way that we can calculate the proper size springs to change to and check to see if the existing concrete is heavy enough to dampen vibration? We can't seem to get any response from the vibration engineers and the project is now on hold waiting for this information.

RE: Fan Motor Upgrade

You need to rent an engineer of your own, to evaluate the details of the changes you propose, and also the wisdom of making changes at all.
