I will be bending tubes to make a u tube, (two straights with a 180 bend).

To determine initial straight length of tube should i consider my 180 bend length based off the outside, inside, or middle diameter?

RE: pipe bend length

Mid-line of the bend.

Now, after that, remember to add the "free length" at each end of the bend needed to clamp the pipe in the pipe bender.

This will vary between machines: usually 4 - 12 inches.

RE: pipe bend length

in what serviçe are the pipes going to be used? What is the diameter of your pipes?
