Use of Intumescent (Fire Resistant) Paint on Pressure Vessels
Use of Intumescent (Fire Resistant) Paint on Pressure Vessels
(OP)
Is the use of intumescent (fire resistant) paint an acceptable method of reducing the heat input into a vessel or tank from an external pool fire?
If so, how is the heat input calculated?
I know this type of paint has been used on steel structures, but we are being asked to use it on pressure vessels to reduce the heat input. I have doubts if this is acceptable, but would like to hear opinions from others.
Thank you.

It depends if they are looking at all the factors in your equation, as Latexman noted.
Nullfire is a well known supplier of these products http://www.nullifire.com Ive never seen a pressure vessel painted for fire protection, more often than not these are protected with flexible fire protection http
