more friction on flexible coupling caused by shaft misalignment

more friction on flexible coupling caused by shaft misalignment

(OP)
Transmitting power with a flexible coupling is a usual way for rotating machinery system. This technic is suite for transmitting power with minimal risk of machine's part damage(shaft, seal and bearing). There are some type of flexible coupling. One of them is Elastomeric type that constructed by metal-rubber contact. The transnmitting power happen because of this contact. This contact cause shear and compression force that increased by tangential force of rotating flexible coupling.

Flexible coupling sustains much friction and compression force due to misalignment(angular or offset misalignment). It causes prematur demage and great vibration of the machine.

How we formulate the friction and compression effect caused by this misalignment. How about solving this problem with kinematics and graphical method

RE: more friction on flexible coupling caused by shaft misalignment

The best solution is to make sure your machine and drive are correctly alligned then you will have minimal coupling wear.

Have you seen the new magnetic type of couplings. There is no physical contact at all, all the power is transmitted via magnetic force. They are supplied by Rexnord and are called Magnalinks. We have used a number of them and they work very well.
