Linear Elements - Linear Response are they related ?? FEA

(OP)
Hello,
I found this question in a FEA Exam and I would like your input.

Are Linear Elements and Linear response related??  What is the difference??

Thank you very much for your help!!

Willy

Could you not have a non-linear time response from linear elements.. Generally though increased deflection is proportional to increased load for linear analysis, s=[k]d.

There are a number of types of non-linearity in a model.  There is material non-linearity and there is geometric non-linearity.

You can have a linear element in a FEM analysis that still considers geometric non-linearity like the P-Delta effect.

Its a good question. Is it a homework problem?

I think it's a good question to generate a discussion, but a poor exam question.

Does a "linear element" refer to the element geometry, the element material response, or what?
