VFD for High Seed Motor

VFD for High Seed Motor

VFD for High Seed Motor

(OP)
Hello.  I am a Mechanical Engineer working on a 20Hp, 2-Pole, AC Induction, 290Hz motor.  The application is a variable torque load (Centrifugal blower), running in open loop control.  I started with the reccommended Yaskawa F7 drive.  I would like to use a less expensive (newer) Yaskawa V1000 drive.  According to the VFD manufacturer, I should be able to use either drive.  I think the major concern is the operating temperature of the motor.  If the motor does not run any hotter, I would think it would be OK.  Does anyone have any suggestions or comments?  Thank you.

RE: VFD for High Seed Motor

Weird freq that!

There shouldn't be any reason for the motor to run at a different temp with a different drive.  If you can set the V1000 to run up to 290Hz you should be fine.

RE: VFD for High Seed Motor

There may be a difference. At least, there used to be a difference.

Some drives switched to a less than ideal switch pattern at high output frequencies and that increased the harmonics contents of motor current so rotor heat increased. It was a real problem with PM motors with massive rotor iron, but less so with induction motors with laminated rotors.
