Epas retrofits; What is the state of play

Epas retrofits; What is the state of play

(OP)
Hello all,

This is my first post to the group & I am asking how current is my question. Is it dead & burried, or nailed down. & who does what, where & with who (or should that be whom? I never know).

I have been asked by a friend to help him fix an MGF EPAS to his original 60s style Mini. To be honest I can't see too many problems, but I am know to have been wrong in the past....lol.

Any help or gentle nudges in the direction of current information...... You know the sort of thing will be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks in advance

Mobby

RE: Epas retrofits; What is the state of play

Your question is too vague to answer.  What exactly does the MGF EPAS have to do with engine fuel and engineering?

RE: Epas retrofits; What is the state of play

Franz is correct, of course, this is in the wrong department.
However I think this is an important question for home builders of hillclimb "specials" etc. who want to use PAS but don't want the extra weight or complication of hydraulic pumps etc.  Is EPAS self-contained with its own computer etc.?

RE: Epas retrofits; What is the state of play

There are aftermarket EPAS systems. I do not know how good they are.

I think you probably could get an OEM EPAS to work in a different car, so long as you can identify ALL the sensors it needs at a minimum vehicle speed, steering wheel angle, and steering wheel torque.

Sorry to franzh for being in the wrong place, I usualy manage wrong place & wrong time too.

Many epas systems have controllers separate from the main ecu. Also sensor inputs can be controlled/fooled with simple electronics.

Thanks for your time.
