850W motor's capacitor value

850W motor's capacitor value

Helo!
Our 850W vacuum cleaner smoked, when my mother used it. She turned it off  as soon as she noticed the smoke. When I took a look at the inside of the machine, it turned out that the capacitor caught fire. Now I am considering replacing the capacitor, the only problem is that the old one has the following spec. :"0,1uF+2*2500 pF 250V 6A f0=1.6MHz  " and it has 2 leads at each end. Not an ordinary capacitor. The question is: what value should the new capacitor have? It is a monophase 850W asynchronous motor. What the 1.6 MHz means?

Zolka

RE: 850W motor's capacitor value

That is not a capacitor - it is an RFI filter built from three capacitors.

Buy a new 'dust sucker'.

You could also remove the whole filter - but be prepared to find an inspector from FCC or some other authority knocking on your door.

BTW, 1.6 MHz is probably the bandwidth of the filter. It absorbs frequencies below 600 kHz, that is the whole AM radio frequency band, almost.

Typo: read 1600 kHz instead of 600 kHz.

Where in the world are you? FCC is in the US, Europe has the EMC directive.

I am from Europe. Would it work without the filter?

RE: 850W motor's capacitor value

Yes. But, as I said, it will probably interfere with radio reception after the lobotomy. And it is not legal.
