Arranging parallel flow control valves

Arranging parallel flow control valves

Arranging parallel flow control valves

(OP)
I'd be curious to get some second opinions on something...

A design I'm working on currently has a steam header supplying three separate pieces of equipment (i.e. separate destinations).  For each piece of equipment, there is a separate parallel connection to the header.

Which is the preferable option and why:

1.)
Have a flow control valve on each of the three lines from the header.

2.)
Have "nested" flow control valves. The total steam flow enters a flow valve then branches off to the first equipment, the remaining flow enters a second valve then branches to the second equipment item, etc.

RE: Arranging parallel flow control valves

The 1st option is preferable for control because
1. Each control Valve operates independently
2.It is easy to isolate each equipment
3.Failure in the First valve will not affect the operation of the subsequent equipment
4.In case the first Flow control valve is in "MANUAL" mode and "CLOSE" and the operator unknowingly puts the second flow control in "AUTO" mode then the control valve will keep opening until it reaches 100% which is not good
