Linear Pattern and Scale at the same time

Linear Pattern and Scale at the same time

Linear Pattern and Scale at the same time

(OP)
Hi All,

I have some cuts that I want to pattern and scale each instance a different factor, sort of a more elaborate area fill. My plan was to create the feature as a solid, pattern it, scale each body, then subtract the whole works. However when you use the linear pattern the feature is created as a single body.

Is there a better way to approach this? Or is there a way to separate the bodies in a pattern.

Thanks

RE: Linear Pattern and Scale at the same time

The only way to do this (other than switching ProE) is to use the Vary Sketch option of the Linear Pattern function.

1) Create a cut such that both its position and size change when you change 1 dimension.  One easy way to do this is to create a circle that is positioned from one edge, but is also tangent to an angled construction line.

2) Start the Linear Pattern command, select the positioning dimension as Direction 1, and enter the desired spacing/instances.

3) Select Vary Sketch and finish the pattern

Awesome I remember reading about that feature but I've never used it. That should give me what I'm looking for thanks.
