Girder shear in 3D FE model
Girder shear in 3D FE model
(OP)
A question has arisen regarding the proper way to determine the shear in girder webs based upon finite element modeling.
We developed a 3D model with plate elements modeling an offset deck which is connected to the top flange via rigid links. The girders are modeled using a plate element for the web and beam elements to represent the flanges.
Is it as simple as using the value of the shear in the web plate element as the design force?

RE: Girder shear in 3D FE model
I will still add the corresponding shear from the beams representing flanges.
As a check, use one of simplified methods to verify your results - using or distribution factors from AASHTO, or grill analogy.

by the way, I don't understand why you used two type of elemenets. in my case, i just used the plate model in flange and web.
Now I'm useing SAP2000 and MIDAS CIVIL. those software are easier to find right result for 3D plate model design.
cheers.
