HVAC Design and/or Load Calculation

HVAC Design and/or Load Calculation

HVAC Design and/or Load Calculation

(OP)
I wanted to know if do you need to be a P.E. to design HVAC or do a load calculation? Or does your work or design needs to be stamped by a P.E.? I work for a Mechanical Contractor but we have no P.E. employee.

Thanks.

RE: HVAC Design and/or Load Calculation

it depends on the state regulations. Here in WI a PE is required when the building is larger than 50,000 ft³ in volume. I know in other states it is more lax, but in some states it might be more stringent. In addition your municipality can have additional requirements. should sk the local building inspection.

RE: HVAC Design and/or Load Calculation

Here in CA, there is a license you can obtain so you don't need a PE stamp to design light commercial buildings (i.e. retail stores, small offices).  I asked the same question at my old workplace where all the engineers were interns.
