DT Excel Version Error

DT Excel Version Error

DT Excel Version Error

(OP)
I hope someone knows how to solve this.  I have a part created recently and natively in SWX2010 SP2.1 using a Design Table.  I have MS Office 2007 on my computer.  I have been in and out of the DT several times today using both Edit Table (the Excel DT opens in the SWX file) and the Edit Table in New Window (the DT is in a stand-alone Excel session).  SWX crashed on me a little while ago on this file.  Restarting SWX and reopening the file shows no obvious problems.  The file itself opens fine and all the configs are accurate.  I can even add new configs that are not part of the DT.

The problem is when I go to edit the DT using either of the options I get the following error: "Design table was created in Excel 2002 and cannot be opened in Excel 2007."  There is no option except to press the good ol' "OKAY" button.  I have made a copy of this file with the same results.  I have also rebooted my machine with the same results.

Please do not suggest deleting the DT.  This DT is not simply holding differing values and suppression states, it is a parametric gear file with all the calculations to yield a true involute for all the different gears in it.

I have encountered this error before, but do not remember how it was resolved.  I am hoping someone has a good fix.

Thanks in advance,

P.S.  I also tried the "Save Table" option.  Everything looks like it is saving the table, but there is no file created.  I am having no other issues with SWX.

RE: DT Excel Version Error

Sounds like a corrupt DT. I'd recommend sending it off to your VAR to have a look at, they may be able to save it.

RE: DT Excel Version Error

Have you tried saving the DT externally to a different version or format, and then re-importing into a new DT?

RE: DT Excel Version Error

CBL, perhaps you missed my P.S.  The DT does not save as a separate file.

I have sent this file to my work computer and get the same results - no joy.

Joe, I did just send this off to my VAR.  I was hoping someone here had experience solving this kind of problem.

RE: DT Excel Version Error

Perhaps open a new session of Excel 2007, then open the DT. Copy and Paste information from "corrupt" file to you new file.

RE: DT Excel Version Error

I have had similar issues in the past and never found a solution.  I reduce the pain when it does happen I incrementally save by doing a save as plus a counter.  Sorry this doesn't help now but hopefully it will save you at some point.

Updraft ... What P.S.?  blush  Yes, I thought it was a signature line and totally ignored it.

Have you tried MechEng2005's suggestion?

RE: DT Excel Version Error

(OP)
MechEng2005's suggestion will not work since I cannot open the DT in any environment.

I have sent the file to my VAR and will let everyone know what comes of it.

In the meantime I recreated the file.  It is a metric gear so I took my still-working parametric inch gear file and changed the Excel calcs from being driven by the Diametral Pitch to being driven by the Module.  All-in-all it wasn't too bad to redo, but I don't like having such catastrophic issues.

RE: DT Excel Version Error

Hence the reason to perform frequent backups.
