Calculation for Vertical Lineal Distance Between Clamps

Calculation for Vertical Lineal Distance Between Clamps

Calculation for Vertical Lineal Distance Between Clamps

(OP)
Can anyone tell me if there is a standard or publication that goes into details for calculating the vertical lineal distance between cable clamps.

I need to confirm how many cable clamps I need for a vertically installed cable, vertical distance is approximatly 3200ft.

Thanks

RE: Calculation for Vertical Lineal Distance Between Clamps

Type of cable?  The cable manufacturer can provide maximum weight that can be supported and provide recommendations.  Consider use of Kellems grips rather than clamps.

If you are in NEC land, see Article 300.19.

Not in NEC land but have access to the NEC code and it states the same as the CEC.

As it stands the I am having a hard time getting this information from the cable manufacturer, figured when you plan on installing 6 runs of cable at 3200 ft per run they would be more helpful.

Anyways, I will keep pushing the manufacturer to get this value.

Thanks

I would install this with a series of drops. I would deadend the cable at the top end of each drop and use cable straps or clamps to restrain or locate the cable. I suggest a generous safety factor. You don't want a failure of one deadend to initiate a total failure of your support system.
