Are there any standard pipe systems worldwide?

Are there any standard pipe systems worldwide?

(OP)
Hello,

I have a question regarding pipesystems. Does anyone know if there are standard steel pipe systems on the worldwide market? I'm thinking about standard pipe systems for mining industry, irregation, aggriculture, fluid transportation and steam pipelines. Can anyone please tell me if there are any standard pipe systems, and what are the names of it?

Kind Regards,

Redmar

RE: Are there any standard pipe systems worldwide?

Redmar,
This is a strange question. All industrial piping systems are designed/fabricated/inspected/tested to Codes and standards. There is no one Code/Standard that is applicable throughout the world.(i.e. a steam system in the USA may not be the same as a steam system in the UK or anywhere else).

If you want to order a steam piping system "off the shelf" then that's not a viable option. Pipe diameters /materials/fittings and particularly pipe thicknesses could vary dependant upon the process conditions.

Maby I should ask my question a bit different. Is there any company that is making a pipe system that is commonly used by alot of companies? Is there any marktleader in pipe systems for the industries: mining industry, irregation, aggriculture, fluid transportation and steam pipelines

RE: Are there any standard pipe systems worldwide?

Redmar,
There are many Companies who can fabricate piping systems for various facilities. You need to do a seach for your area and ask them for information of their clients/projects. From that you can possibly get a contact at their Clients and ask if they did a good job or not.

There are know companies who specialise in different areas such as steam but they can also fabricate pipework for other industries.

Best thing is to do a search on Google.

RE: Are there any standard pipe systems worldwide?

Worldwide, pipes are usually purchased locally (in country or regional trade area) to meet the spec's of the region where the pipe is going to be used.  Built locally.  Welded locally.  Attached to equipment locally.

Equipment tends to be either completely ANSI (US-standrad fittings and sizes) or metric, or can be built in two versions - one for the US market, one for export.  So the equipment might be shipped in.  Sometimes flanges and fittings are imported - but not usually unless there is something very unusual about a particular application.

Pipe is too cheap to buy locally - and will usually arrive in accordance with the needed spec's just fine - to justify exporting lots of it overseas.   The industries you mention are rather common, and so use local pipe.

But even local "pipe" fits the standard pipe sizes used here.  That is, you can easily get a 6 inch schedule 40 stainless steel 304L pipe in Spain.  Germany.  India.  Taiwan...

Redmar,

A marketing guy asked Engineering why they did not have a standard design plant to offer to clients.

Engineering replied that they would make a standard design plant, once Marketing had found a standard customer.

Star to ApC2Kp.

Refineries are not Model T's.
