Bearing isolators

Bearing isolators

Bearing isolators

(OP)
For one of the Turbine - Gearbox- Fractionator pump , we are insisting for Inpro bearing isolators for the gearbox. The pump runs at 1485 rpm and the High speed side of the gearbox is 5300 rpm. Forced lubrication system for the bearings are applied for gearbox and the turbine bearings.

Gearbox vendor provide only aluminium laby seal and says that this is sufficient.

Because it is forced lubrication for the gears and the bearings, it is suggested to have inpro seals.

Thanks to suggest .

Did the vendor say that in writing, or is it just the verbal effluvium of a salesperson?

RE: Bearing isolators

You should be able to upgrade to INPRO.  However, I do not see why you would need INPRO isolators because you are using forced lubrication?  It's not like the gearbox housing is holding pressure...

Thanks for the reply. Basically steam turbine driven equipments would try to breath through the laby. Also the gearbox is outdoor installation where there are possibility of sand storms. Hence insisting for Inpro seal.Is it OK?

RE: Bearing isolators

why inpro? there are many other bearing isolator manufacturers. like Labtecta (AES Seal).
is there a current problem with dust or moisture ingression?

consider the life cycle cost of the equipment. If the isolator will improve it and it is economical, then install it.
This is probably obvious!
