Drill hole at an angle in Inventor

Drill hole at an angle in Inventor

Drill hole at an angle in Inventor

(OP)
Sorry if this sounds like a stupid question but I am in the process of teaching myself how to use Inventor 2009 Pro. I have been using google and a buddy of mine to learn but google isnt helping me and my buddy is MIA at the moment. I was hoping someone on this forum could help.

Ok, I have a standard assembly. I have two that meet together at a 90 degree angle to form a 'T'. And another plate that butts up to the both plates at a 45 degree angle. I want to put a hole that runs through one of the plates into the 45 degree plate at the same angle.

RE: Drill hole at an angle in Inventor

In the real world assembly will the holes be drilled at the assembly level or at the part level?

In any case you will need either
a sketch line to set angle and a workplane on the end of that line to place the hole

or

a sketch line to set angle and Revolve a rectangle around the sketch line to cut the hole.

If you can't figure it out attach what you have so far.

RE: Drill hole at an angle in Inventor

The way I did it was to create a plane parallel to the original sketch plane where I want the hole. Then I drew a centreline on it, and created a workpoint where that hit the surface of the part.

Then create a workplane at the point normal to the centreline.

Then create a workplane parallel to that but offset back a bit. Create a workpoint where the centreline intersects that. Then create a hole at that point.

This is not the fastest way but workplanes happen to suit the way we make jigs round here. - for example it would be very easy to modify that to give a linear array of holes.

Cheers
