Inner Casing Shop Inspections

Inner Casing Shop Inspections

Inner Casing Shop Inspections

(OP)
Hi all,

I want to know about shopt inspection plan. I asked the contractor to provide "Marking & Cutting Report, Fit-up Check, Visual Check for Welding". But the contractor said it is not necessary since it is process inspection and the final is already covered in the dimensional and NDE test inspection and reports.

what i want to know, is the contractor's explanation acceptable.

Thanks.

RE: Inner Casing Shop Inspections

is your requirement in your bid and have you a contract?

do you have right of inspection (specifically for observing or confirming these items) in your spec?

from a technical point, the contractor is giving standard answers.  they should have, as a normal course of fabrication, forms/travelers or other quality documents that record what you are asking for.

to keep the honest people honest, you may want to send one of your people, familiar with the processes you mention, or a 3rd party inspector into the shop for confirmation.

what is your final acceptance criteria?

RE: Inner Casing Shop Inspections

anakbaru,
What you have asked is correct, except that appears a bit tardive. You were suppose to write these document names down on a paper, called perhaps Supplier Documentation Requirements List, along with the documents you send in the Request For Quotation, to each fabricator. They were suppose to accept or reject your list and in the end, the winner fabricator had a list of documents he accepted to supply in accordance with the PO documentation.
Obviously, if you have not asked for, the manufacturer will not provide other documents than he agreed to. As such, you probably are not entitled to ask for the documents you are not paying for, even if the manufacturer might have them completed in accordance with his own quality system. It seems this fabricator has learned that there are no freebies and free lunch and is trying to teach the same to others.

RE: Inner Casing Shop Inspections

as has been said, the fabricator probably does this allready on his in shop traveler.

he does not want to create new forms.

asking to do the redundant forms and reporting to you that it has been done, shows a lack of trust in your fabricator.

these are code required operations that are done every day and can be reported, but, if they were not requested on you "Vendor Documents" or in specifications, well, I would gladly do them for you....but not before change order to purchase order was written to cover cost of new forms and reporting.

thanks all,

i accepted already their clarifications, i think they forgot to do that one.

But what are the purposes to ask the marking & cutting report? and also fit-up report? is it to find out the angle for welding (bavel)
