loss of gen's excitation

(OP)
Pls any anybody who could give me some causes/reasons of generator losing its excitation. every time we start generator, there is no 440 volts coming in and  we need to flush with 12 v battery to attain 440 volts, once the gen is loaded , say 30 kw or more, the gen load starts seesawing while in parallel with other gen set. everything was checked, avr, capacitor, rotating rectifier, current transformer & reactor, all ok. is there any other things need to be checked? i suspected that the exciter coil is damaged. what test need to be done. thanks in advance.
note : Gen ratings: 270 kw, 440 v, 60 hz.brushless.
