Journal-Thrust bearing design calculations

Journal-Thrust bearing design calculations

Journal-Thrust bearing design calculations

(OP)
Hi,

I want to know about the journal-thrust bearing (it's combined bearing). These bearings use ISO 32 oil at 120F to support the radial load as well as axial load. The thrust part is tapered-land type; Bearing have babbitted surfaces on radial & thrust faces.
I am fairly new to this topic, so I need some help in understanding the following things: ( if somebody can throw some equations that will be really helpful, too)

1) calculate supply oil pressure required? (this bearing is hydrostatic)
2) calculating thrust capacity of the bearing
3) calculating required oil gpm (radial & thrust)
4) estimating outlet temperature
5) calculating horse power loss (radial & thrust)
6) calculating film thickness (min)

I thank you all in advance for the help.

I am really looking for help,

RE: Journal-Thrust bearing design calculations

I have a thin paperback entitled "Hydrostatic Bearing Design Manual" or something similar, from an outfit called the Nonferrous Founders Society.

I can't find it right now, but 40 years ago, it was _the_ reference book for hydrostatic bearings.
